Chokeberries (aronia berries) make the tea taste slightly sour-sweet and astringent. Aronia berries are rich in vitamins (А, P, C, E, K, B1, B2, B6, B-Carotene), macro and microelements (borium, iodine, ferrum, manganese, cuprum, molybdenum, fluorine, magnesium). The berries contain sugars (glucose, saccharose, fructose), folic, nicotinic, malic and other acids, riboflavin, phyloquinone, tocopherol, cyanine, pyridoxine, thiamine, tannins and pectins. Berry pulps contain amygdalin, coumarin and other compounds.
For example, chokeberries have 2 times more vitamin P than black-currant and 20 times more than oranges and apples. Also, chokeberries have 4 times more iodine than strawberry, gooseberry and raspberry. Aronia is a source of healthful substances! The astringent property of chokeberries shows us that the berries contain much tannins, organic acids and pectins, thus it positively effects on digestion. Aronia contains pectins, which aid in removal of heavy metals, radionuclides and pathogenic microorganisms from the body. Pectins normalize the function of the intestinal tract, treat spasms and have a bile-expelling action. Aronia berries fortify blood vessel walls, make them more elastic and penetrable.
Chokeberries are prescribed in case of blood coagulability problems, bleeding, rheumatism and atherosclerosis. One of the most useful health property of the berry is its ability to normalize the arterial pressure and to lower the cholesterol level in blood.
